Sweet Summer Saturday Sessions
July 8, 15, 22 and 29, 10 – 12 noon
Session A: Justice & Injustice. “The Happy man is the just man, not the unjust man,” Socrates. In The Republic Socrates proposes that the state should be considered in a similar way. He lives and dies for the ideas of the perfect state which he declares to be the just state: “But it makes no difference whether it exists now or ever will come to being.” Explore whether or not there is such a thing as a natural pattern or law by which a man may order his life though the practice of Dialectic.
Session B: The Enduring Power of Love. Love is at the heart of philosophy. The philosopher is a lover of wisdom and a lover of humanity. In these four sessions participants explore love in the Ancient world, in the Renaissance era and in Modern Day Society and use the teachings of the sages to illuminate the path of human flourishing
